Wasena Neighborhood Plan
Wasena is one of the City's first suburbs, developed in the 1920s as growth began to spread further from downtown. The neighborhood is named after its views of the surrounding valley and mountains. In a Native American language, Wasena translates as "beautiful view." The neighborhood features undulating terrain with many houses situated along hillsides with views of downtown and several mountains.

Wasena has a solid core of homeowners combined with a healthy rental market. The value and condition of housing in Wasena has been stable for many years, and there are many long-term residents. Wasena Park, on the northern edge of the neighborhood along the Roanoke River, is one of the City's most heavily used parks with athletic and picnic facilities.

The Wasena Neighborhood Plan was adopted by City Council on September 15,2003 after two public meetings hosted by the Wasena Neighborhood Forum.1
