| Hardware requirements
To connect, the following equipment is required:
- A wireless-enabled device such as a laptop or a PDA (personal digital assistant).
- A WiFi compliant 802.11b wireless ethernet card installed on your laptop/PDA or a laptop/PDA with integrated wireless capabilities. Wireless
cards are available from most electronics stores and can be
used in a laptop or PDA.
Software Requirements
Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, or any other web browser.
Make sure your web browser is not set to use a proxy server.
For Internet Explorer, this setting can be found in the Windows Control
Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings.
Connecting
To connect to the free Internet service using Windows (9x, 2000, XP):
- Set your wireless network adapter's Network Name (or ESSID) to "ROANOKEWIFI" or leave blank.
- Configure your network settings to obtain an IP address
automatically (DHCP).
- Launch your web browser.
- A Login page should appear.
- Enter your username and password. First time users will be prompted to register for a username and password.
- Read the terms of the free service and click "I Agree" if you choose to continue to the Internet.
- Start surfing!
- **Access is limited to 120 minutes of free Internet access per day.
