On the third Saturday of each month, beginning at noon, the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority offers residents a chance to dispose of hazardous waste properly, in order to keep it out of the landfill. There is no cost, but you must register in advance to drop off materials. Examples of these materials include cleaning products, pesticides, automotive products, and painting supplies. Certain items may be dropped off during regular business hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Examples of items that can be dropped off at these times include latex paint, aerosol cans, and certain used automotive fluids.
