Cover Sheets
The Roanoke City Circuit Court requires cover sheets for all recordings of land records. According to VA Code Section 17.1-227.1(a) Circuit Court Clerks may require that any deed or other instrument conveying or relating to an interest in real property be submitted for recordation with a cover sheet detailing the information contained in the deed or other instrument necessary for the clerk to properly index such instrument. The Roanoke City Circuit Court uses the Virginia Land Records Cover Sheet (VLRCS) cover sheets which were created by the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Per the requirement of Section 17.1-227.1(a) the cover sheet shall include the following information:
  1. The name of each party to be indexed as grantor and grantee
  2. In the case of a deed or other instrument described in 58.1-801 or 58.1-807, the amount of consideration and the actual value of the property conveyed
  3. The Virginia or Federal law under which any exemption from recordation taxes is claimed
  4. The tax map reference numbers or parcel identification numbers (PIN) (Please note: In the City of Roanoke these numbers would be seven digits long)
  5. The name and current address of the person to whom the instrument should be returned after recordation.
