All citizens who ask for a police response are asked questions to determine their emergency. This is important because the dispatchers must determine the priority in which to make the call. The dispatchers may ask the following questions, depending on the emergency:
What is the location of the offense?
What is the phone number from which you are calling?
Are there weapons involved?
Who is involved?
Can you provide descriptions of those involved?
If the caller is reporting an assault, is anyone injured?
Do you wish to speak with the officer when he or she arrives?
