Our department operates 10 fire engines, 4 aerial ladder trucks, 8 ambulances, 1 part time ambulance, and 3 command vehicles 24/7. Firefighter/EMTs operate out of 11 stations with 14 pieces of front-line fire apparatus, 8 front-line EMS units, 1 medium-squad and 1 HazMat unit.
Administrative offices, including the Office of the Chief and the Fire Marshal's Office are housed on the 3rd floor of Station 1 located at the intersection of Franklin Road and Elm Avenue (713 Third St., SW)

Our customers are every citizen and visitor to the City of Roanoke. We serve a resident population of approximately 97,000 in an area of 43 square miles.
Roanoke Fire-EMS holds a Class 2 rating from the Insurance Service Organization, the highest rating given to a Virginia fire department, and 1 of only 5 such ratings awarded in the state. This rating helps our community by bringing lower insurance rates to homeowners and businesses. Roanoke Fire-EMS is also an Internationally Accredited Agency.
