  2. Mill Mountain Theatre: All The World’s a Stage

    This show is an original production adapted by MMT's Education Associate, Jay Briggs, and Amanda Sox. This fast-paced play combines an exploration of Shakespeare’s biography with an introduction to some of his timeless characters and themes. As 2016 marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, MMT will celebrate the life and work of the poet and playwright prolific enough to be known simply as “The Bard.”

    June 25-26. Pitch a tent and camp out for wildlife! National Wildlife Federation’s Great American Camp out is a summer-long celebration of camping as a way to connect with nature and wildlife. Join us at Wasena Park on June 25 for our own local celebration and camping extravaganza! There will be lots of fun, games, campfires and smores! Gear rentals from Underdog Bikes and Roanoke Mountain Adventures featuring adult big wheels, stand up paddleboards, bikes and more!

    Golden Park will host the first Parks and Arts event of 2016. The event will take place this Saturday, June 25, from noon to 3 p.m. in the park, located at Charlisle Ave. between Spruce St. and 16th St. Performing artists will include The Moyer Brothers, Opera Roanoke, Mill Mountain Theatre, and Southwest Virginia Ballet. Visual artists will include Art is Happening: Hat and Prop Making by the Taubman Museum and Katherine Devine (face painting).
